Lines Are Open: What Would You Do?

Something I have been thinking about for a while is ‘what next?’  I’m not bored with the two podcasts I’m currently doing, but there is something else I want to do, but I’m not sure what.  I think we all have that other project inside us, the one that we keep out of view, or we don’t know will work, or the one that could be considered ‘art.’  And I’m a believer in ‘art in podcasting.  Sometimes we don’t have the time, or the skills, or even the direction to make that thing.  So I put the question to you:

If you had unlimited time and resources, what would you create?

If it was wide open, you had all the tools you needed (which you may already have, and don’t realize it yet), and plenty of time, what would you make?  What kind of show?  Put in some blue sky solutioneering, and tell us what you would do.

I asked this question on a forum where podcasters hang out, and the response was tepid at best.  Perhaps that’s a good thing, as maybe those people were already doing it.  Or maybe they had never thought about it.  Or maybe, they didn’t care that much.  Either way, I am curious what people want to make.

It’s only fair I should answer as well.  I would do something with plenty of production, trying out new sounds and different ways to goose a story (as I’m constantly inspired and amazed at what Radiolab does with it’s production).  I would do something where I got to learn new things and see interesting stuff (art, jobs, music, lifestyles, whatever) that I didn’t know anything – or much – about.  I would talk to people, record conversations and events, and string it together in a way that you got a picture of the world I was in, and the lives of the people I was talking to.

So that’s what’s percolating.  What about you?  What would you do, without any of the limits?

The comments are open, or you can call the Pod Geek phone line at: (720) 515-1763. (720-5151-POD)  Leave a message, and I’ll try to get in posted on the blog.http://www.radiolab.org/

Lines Are Open: What Are You Listening To?

I’m on a bit of a road trip (Schenectady, NY to Nashville, Huntsville, then home to Denver, CO), and listening to a ton of podcasts along the way.  And I think a regular installment around here is going to be a roundup of what I’m listening to.  There will be some themes that repeat, but mostly I’ll post some brief reviews with my roundups.

But I want to know what you are listening to.  So:

What podcasts are you listening to?

What is on your must listen to list?  What do you think about your list of podcasts?  Anything you would recommend to everyone? Or what are you ready to drop?

The comments are open, or you can call the Pod Geek phone line at: (720) 515-1763. (720-5151-POD)

A few things I listened to on the drive:

And there is still at least 18 hours of driving left to go. There is plenty of listening to be done.

What are you listening to?

PS: I’m attending Podcamp Nashville on Saturday, March 26th.  Photos and updates from that later, and throughout the event on twitter: @podgeek

Lines Are Open: Do You Podcast

All weekend long – and beyond – the phone lines are open.  I want to hear from you, and will make this a regular Friday installment.  This is an open post for you.

Do you podcast, and what is your podcast?  Or do you want to start a podcast?

I figure you must be here for a reason, and I’m curious who you are, and I hope others are as well.  So who are you?  Introduce yourself in the comments, and let us know where your place on the web is.

OR:

Call the Pod Geek phone line.  Lines truly are open, at (720) 515-1763. (720-5151-POD).  I want to start compiling a podcast of Lines Are Open questions at some point, but for now, we will just post mp3s of the calls here.

Phone Lines Are Open: What Do You Want To Know?

I want to have an open post on Fridays, and give the weekend over to your thoughts.  And at some point soon, I want to put them in podcast form.  I even got a phone number just for this blog, and down the road, you will be able to call in and leave your thoughts.

But for now, we will keep it here. And the thing I want to know is:

What do you want to know?

What questions about podcasting do you have?  Do you want to know about gear or audio?  Do you need to know how to post your podcasts? Encoding? Promoting your show?

What would you like to see on this site, and what would help you?

Let me know in the comments.
